About This Blog

This is my personal blog where I share articles, notes, tips, and resources related to both my work and the influence of technology in my life away from work.

I also write about my ongoing projects, both personal and commissioned.

A Bit Of History

I graduated from Surrey University with a degree in Psychology in 1989. After leaving University I started work at the sharp end of music retail, eventually becoming a management development trainer and coach.

In the mid-nineties I switched focus and became a Microsoft Lecturer specialising in database development, desktop applications and website creation with (ahem) FrontPage!

After that I went on to provide internal technical support for a major UK bookseller chain, eventually becoming their Senior Systems Administrator. When the Company was sold in 2005, I took a short sabbatical to study for and obtain my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification along with CompTIA Security+ certification and some CCNA (Cisco networking).

Throughout this time I maintained a high level of interest building websites with HTML, ASP and CSS. In 2006, I became a freelance offering technical support, troubleshooting, consultancy and systems installation & configuration.

I also wrote a monthly column for a local newspaper called ‘A Nerd’s Eye View‘ (2009 – 2011). The original articles are a bit dated now but I’ve archived them all on this site just because I can. Here are a couple examples:

Today, I spend nearly all of my time consulting with and building websites for businesses and also providing a menu of related business-focused web services.

I believe that WordPress is truly the best content management system available today and, with its enormous developer and user community it will continue to dominate for many years to come.
